Speak Your Truth to Authority

THIS WORKSHOP OUTLINES A STRATEGY FOR SHARING FACTS, IDEAS AND OPINIONS WITH SUPERVISORS AND COLLEAGUES WHO MAY OR MAY NOT BE RECEPTIVE TO WHAT YOU HAVE TO OFFER.

One of the most challenging and most feared aspects of being in a professional environment is speaking truth to authority. This workshop outlines a strategy for sharing facts, ideas and opinions with supervisors and colleagues who may or may not be receptive to what you have to offer. Through a unique combination of Transactional Analysis and Nonviolent Communication participants gain proficiency in a technique that has proven to work!

Transactional Analysis

Developed by Dr. Eric Berne. At its simplest level, Transactional Analysis is the method for studying interactions between individuals. This model can help us understand the starting point of a challenging conversation. In each of us there exists: Critical Parent, Adult, and Adaptive Child.

Each of us carries each of these with us and at various times, depending on the trigger, we respond from our child, our parent or our adult. True communication and understanding only happens when both are in their adult.

Nonviolent Communication

In order to get yourself or the other into your adults, a model called Nonviolent Communication (NVC), created by Marshall Rosenberg, provides a set of tools that can be very effective.

Four Components to NVC

Through exercises and role playing participants practice this model to gain confidence and proficiency.
